Large electric oven source of Jasper fire

A fire at the Jasper Electric Motors facility Tuesday evening was isolated to a large industrial electric oven, according to Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang.
The department was dispatched to the fire at 733 West Division Road at 8:22 p.m. after a person in the facility discovered the fire and called 9-1-1.
Chief Hochgesang said responding firefighters used a CO2 extinguisher to knock down the flames before finishing the fire with water. Damages were isolated to the electric oven, and the facility was filled with smoke that had to be ventilated with fire department fans and the building’s ventilation system.
According to Hochgesang, it appeared the fire started when some of the insulation in the oven ignited.
No one other than the caller was in the building at the time of the incident.
The fire department responded with 30 firefighters and five trucks. They were on scene for over an hour.
Division Road was shut down from U.S. 231 to St. Charles during the incident.
Dubois County Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene.
