Kylie captures your memories at the fair

Kylie Schepers has spent her evenings this week photographing the Dubois County 4-H Fair.

You can follow her on Facebook here or on her album site here to see all the images she shares and purchase them for yourself. They range from animal showmanship competitions to behind-the-scenes candid moments.

It’s a labor of love for the Huntingburg native who always went to the fair and loved spending time there, but only ever experienced the clubs and programs secondhand through her cousins. It’s why she’s been there every night this week, building a portfolio of memories for families and herself.

Here are a few questions we sent over to Kylie and her responses

Why are you out there taking these photos every night?

Photography has always been more than a business for me — it’s a way to give back to the community I love. I spend time — sometimes in my free time — capturing moments at games, church, the fair, or wherever life takes me, simply because I enjoy it.

The fair holds a special place in my heart — I grew up going every year, and now I get to photograph it with family who show animals and many kids I know through sports who are involved as well.

Sports photography is a big part of what I do, but what really means the most is being able to support these kids beyond the field. To freeze a moment in time that families can hold onto forever — that’s a gift I’m honored to give.

What do you really enjoy photographing at the fair?

One of my favorite parts about the fair is photographing the animal shows. I love seeing the kids show their animals with pride, interact with them like they’re family, and just enjoy the moment with their 4-H friends. There’s so much heart in it—and getting to capture that kind of joy and connection is really special.

When I’m walking around the fair, I look for the candid moments. Kids playing the dirt, playing with their animals, washing them, etc. Capturing those moments are more personal to me rather than the “posed” moments.

What does your photography mean for the folks you capture?

Whenever I show someone a photo of themselves, every time it’s always them smiling ear to ear, most kids yelling “that’s fire”, but in the end, everyone is just thrilled. They experience the feeling of being “seen,” and that’s something that they’ll always remember.

What are your hopes when you capture a photo?

Whenever I take a photo of someone—at the fair, a game, wherever—I hope they see what I see in that moment. Sometimes it’s pride, joy, focus… just something real and powerful.

It’s more than a photo—it’s a way for them to see themselves in a new light, and that means everything to me.

Kylie Schepers.
