Krempp Gallery hosts Pennsylvania artist

fornavigation2Rachel Wagner, a Pittsburgh, Penn. artist, will be featured at The Krempp Gallery at the Jasper Arts Center for the month of January.

Wagner’s digital collages, videos, and projections are nourished by her never-ending curiosity about mind, consciousness, and the grand mystery of our existence. In her art, Wagner combines imagery and ideas from scientific textbooks, mystic tradition and religions, and nature.

Wagner’s mandalas and video works venerate observable reality, and the mysteries which have always acted on the human mind.  “To exalt some of the known inner workings of material existence, I magnify themes such as recursion, complexity, and symmetry.  I recreate hallucinations and strange mental imagery, pointing to what is not fully understood,” Wagner said about her art. “Images are abstracted and messages hidden, beseeching investigation of the viewer. The pieces relate the known with the unknown, emphasizing the act of making meaning out of mystery.”

The value of exploration and reflection is central to Wagner’s art.

“Upon confrontation, my work creates an immersive experience, engulfing the viewer in layers of detail and symbols that they can explore and define,” she said. “Just as it is paramount to spiritual journeys in general.”

Rachel Wagner holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University.
