Kissling announces intention to run for Huntingburg Council

Huntingburg City Councilman Glen Kissling announced his intention to run for reelection as a Huntingburg council member in 2015.

Councilman Kissling presently represents residents of the first precinct and will be seeking his second term to the position.

According to Kissling, he is proud of the progress that has been made since he took the oath of office in 2011. He looks forward to overseeing completion of several projects including the railroad overpass, the housing project at St. Joseph Hospital property by the Miller-Valentine Group, and implementing the $10 million Stellar Projects of Huntingburg.

Since taking office, Kissling has maintained his commitment to support and improve public services. He supported the agreement with county commissioners and Memorial Hospital to ensure a full-time emergency ambulance service remains in the City of Huntingburg. As part of that agreement, the city has moved forward with remodeling of the building on Van Buren Street.

With the help of the city council, Kissling supported the addition of personnel to the police department.

The former fire chief pointed out that expansion of the fire station located on 11th Street will help better serve residents on the city’s north side as well as Huntingburg’s industrial park area.

Providing improved public service was a commitment for Kissling well before he ever tossed his hat into the political ring. Glen joined the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department in 1981. His service, hard work and leadership were rewarded many years later when he was appointed fire chief by Mayor Connie Nass.

He served in that position for 20 years under mayors Gail Kemp and Marvin Belcher. He stepped down following his election in 2011. Kissling is still active with the fire department and is certified by the State of Indiana as a Medical First Responder.

Kissling is a forty-year employee of Steinkamp Home Center located in Huntingburg. He currently holds the position of purchasing for building materials and is sales manager for wholesale lumber sales, distributing lumber throughout the Midwestern region.

Kissling has served on the board of directors of the Dubois County Home Builders Association; president of The Southridge Aquatic Raider Gators swim team. He coached for many years in the Huntingburg Girls softball program. He has been the recipient of the Jaycees Outstanding Young Hoosier award; the Good Samaritan award from Fraternal Order of police, and been honored by the Huntingburg Fire Department with what is now recognized as the Francis ”Chick” Carson award.

Kissling and his wife Connie [Wendholt] have been married 40 years. They have two daughters, Stacie Vaal of Jasper and Rebecca [Becky] Messmer of Huntingburg. They also have three grandchildren.

Glen is a member of St. Mary’s Church, The Huntingburg YMI, The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Sons of The American Legion and The Huntingburg Country Club.
