Kimball Electronics Group partners with Consumer Safety Technologies (CST) on Intoxalock Program

Kimball Electronics Group has been awarded a new assembly contract with Consumer Safety Technologies (CST), headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.

The contract includes manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and system build for electronic controls used in the CTS Intoxalock eLERT product. The Intoxalock brand breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID or IID) has been used for 20 years to keep intoxicated drivers off the road and to help modify the behavior of drivers who have been convicted of an alcohol related offense.

The new multi-year, multi-million dollar contract includes manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for electronic controls used in the Intoxalock eLERT breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID or IID). Kimball Electronics – Jasper, located in Jasper, Indiana, will be the manufacturing facility for this contract.

While the Intoxalock Legacy breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID or IID) has been used for 20 years, Kimball Electronics – Jasper (KEJ) will be building the next generation assemblies for the Intoxalock Mobile eLERT. The program will include three separate units, the Relay Box, the Hand Held unit, and the Camera unit. Production of the Relay Box is scheduled to begin in March of 2013 followed by the Hand Held, then the Camera unit.

The Intoxalock Mobile eLERT ignition interlock device is the next generation BAIID built on the reliability of the Intoxalock Legacy IID. Monitoring authorities now have the option to require the additional monitoring features of a camera and GPS location and receive this information almost instantly with the eLERT real-time reporting capability.

Many states are now requiring high risk offenders to use an ignition interlock with the advanced features of the Intoxalock Mobile eLERT. Many states are also requiring one or more of these features for all DUI, DWI, or OWI offenders.
