Kern Leon Luker, 84
Kern Leon Luker, 84, of Stendal, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He was born September 20, 1930 in Stendal, Indiana, to Elmer and Ida (Hagemeyer) Luker.
He married Barbara Faye Oxley on May 5, 1951 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal.
Mr. Luker worked at Holland Dairy; and also in the maintenance department at the Pike County Courthouse where he retired. Kern was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal and was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies and I.U. Basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Luker, who died January 4, 2003; his brother, Austin Luker; and two siblings who died in infancy.
He is survived by one son, Ritchie (Paula) Luker of Velpen; two daughters, Peggy Pixley of Newburgh and Kimberly Mendel of Petersburg; three brothers, Robert and wife Beverly Luker of Huntingburg, Paul Ellis and wife Bernice Luker of Velpen, and Donald Luker of Stendal; one sister, Karen and husband Clayburn Jones of Stendal; by six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Kern Luker will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal with burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Stendal. Pastor Ed Wicks, Josh Luker and Rev. Mary Hurley will participate in the funeral services.
Friends may call for visitation at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the day of the funeral. Nass & Son Funeral Home of Huntingburg has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund.
