Kenneth “Amos” Mitchell, 84

Kenneth “Amos” Mitchell, age 84, of Eckerty, Ind., passed away at 12:55 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born August 6, 1929 in Crawford County, Indiana to Freeman and Olean (Schnarr) Mitchell.

In 1951 he married Ora Rae Gaither at Birdseye, Indiana.

Amos was a school bus driver for 30+ years, worked at Gaither’s Grocery Store in Eckerty, and retired from Masterbrand Cabinets in Ferdinand. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid coon hunter.

Amos was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Lee Mitchell, Lester Wayne Mitchell, and infant Clayton Ray Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ora Rae Mitchell of Eckerty; one sister, Victoria Mae Polen of Huntingburg; one sister-in-law, Susie (Mike) Oser of Huntingburg; one niece and one nephew, Jessica (Adam) Mohr of Ferdinand, and Eddie Andry, Jr. of Eckerty; and by four great nephews.

Funeral services for Kenneth “Amos” Mitchell will be held at 2:00 p.m., EST, on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Eckerty Cemetery in Eckerty, Ind.
