Kathryn M. “Kat” Smith, 35, Valparaiso, formerly Jasper

Kathryn M. “Kat” Smith, 35, of Valparaiso, formerly of Jasper, passed away at 4:34 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Methodist Hospital North in Gary, Indiana.

Kat was born in Huntingburg on April 17, 1983, to Richard Alan and Charlene D. (Ruckriegel) Smith.

She was a loving mother and enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two children, Joey Taylor and Charlie Taylor of Huntingburg; one stepdaughter, Maisie Taylor of Huntingburg; companion, Cliff Handley of Valparaiso; father, Richard Alan Smith of Valparaiso; one brother, Elijah Smith of Jasper; maternal grandmother, Lois Ruckriegel of Jasper; aunts and an uncle; nieces and nephews; many cousins.

Preceding her in death was her mother, Charlene Ruckriegel Smith.

Funeral services for Kathryn “Kat” Smith will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper with burial to follow at a later date.

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 5:00 p.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel.
