Kathleen Weinzapfel, 86, Evansville

Kathleen Weinzapfel, 86, of Evansville, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus.

Kathy was born on March 10, 1939, in Jasper, Ind., to the late Alois John and Mary Ann (Blessinger) Heichelbech.

She was an occupational therapist at Evansville ARC and Deaconess Hospital and also served as the Director of Physical Medicine at Deaconess. Kathy was a faithful member of St. Mary and John Catholic Church and a member of the church choir. She had been inducted into the Brutè Society of the Diocese of Evansville for her service to the church. Kathy was also a member of the Germania Maennerchor choir.

Surviving Kathy are her children and their spouses, Theresa and Jeff Purdy, Mary and Ron Lee and Daniel and Cathy Weinzapfel; grandchildren, Joy and Matthew Weinzapfel, Nick, Jacob and Hannah Purdy and Rebecca Lee; sister, Julie Teder; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Sandy Weinzapfel, and nieces and nephews, Jim Weinzapfel, Jr, Mark Weinzapfel, Sr. Ann Marie Teder, SND, Mark Teder, Karen Meyer and Laura Grelck.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Daniel Weinzapfel, and in-laws, Jim and Pat Stinson and Ed Teder.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Eugene Schmitt officiating. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 613 Cherry Street.

The family would like to thank Kathy’s caregivers at Faith Personal Care for their dedicated and compassionate service, which allowed Kathy to safely continue living at home.
