Karla Renee Wilkes, 64, Eckerty

Karla Renee Wilkes, 64, of Eckerty, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at Good Samaritan Home and Rehabilitative Center in Oakland City, Ind.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1960, in New Albany, Ind., to Garrel Lee and Janet Marie Patton Carr.

Karla married Terry Lynn Wilkes on Sept. 1, 1984, at Fairview General Baptist Church. They shared 40 years of memories together.

Karla spent years as a babysitter to many families and neighborhood children and retired from Touch of Class Catalog in Huntingburg, Ind., after 24 years of service. She was a member of Fairview and Highfill General Baptist churches.

Karla was a wonderful Christian woman who enjoyed gospel music and singing. Karla enjoyed traveling, loved the beach and cherished family trips to Florida and to Tennessee with her husband. She loved taking pictures to capture memories to be shared. Karla enjoyed organizing Derby Dinner Playhouse outings and family reunions.She thrived on spending time with her daughter and grandsons and could be found at all her grandsons’ events.

Her favorite color green was as bright and vibrant as she was. With a heart of gold, Karla was such a fun-loving, sweet and caring woman to all. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

Karla is preceded in death by her parents, Garrel Lee and Janet Marie Carr, and her brothers, Kevin Carr and Keith Carr.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Wilkes of Eckerty, Ind.; daughter, Tiffany Neukam (Joshua) of Oakland City, Ind.; two grandsons, Braden Neukam and Collin Neukam; sister, Kimberly Bean (Eric) of Taswell, Ind.; and sisters-in-law, Jill Carr Ballard (Darren) of Taswell, Ind., and Laurie Carr of Salem, Ind., as well as several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

A funeral service was held on Monday, March 3, at 11 a.m., with Brother Joe Crow officiating at Denbo Funeral Home in English, Ind. Burial followed in Highfill Chapel Cemetery.
