Karen A. “Matty” Murray, 69, Jasper

Karen A. “Matty” Murray, 69, of Jasper, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Deaconess Gateway in Evansville.

Matty was born in Jasper on November 5, 1947, to Ernie and Jean (Gootee) Matheis. She married Harold Murray on March 31, 1973, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

She was a 1965 graduate of Jasper High School. She then received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Indiana State University. She was a teacher at Holy Family School in Jasper and retired from there after teaching for 35 years. Matty was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. She enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. She was also a dog lover.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Murray of Jasper; two sons, Kevin Murray of Charlotte, N.C., Luke Murray of Otwell; one granddaughter, Casie Murray of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Chris Marple and her husband Steve of Armona, Cali., Cathne Brown of Evansville and Lori Kunkel and her husband Dave of Jasper; two brothers, Larry Matheis and his wife June of Newburgh and Pat Matheis,and his wife Debbie of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents and one nephew, her godchild, Brian Matheis.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Karen A. “Matty” Murray will be held at 11:00 a.m. onWednesday, June 28, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. A rosary will be prayed by St. Joseph’s Parish at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or to the Dubois County Humane Society.
