July programs at the Dubois County Museum
The Dubois County Museum at 2704 N. Newton Street (US 231) in Jasper announces their programming for July.
It will be a busy month at the museum.
Visitors are invited to grab a copy of the summertime Scavenger Hunt, called “Feel the Heat”.
Visitors are instructed to read the clues that propel them on a trip around the museum, searching for clues that center on the theme of a heat source. A small prize will be awarded to correctly completed hunts. Pick up your paper at the lobby desk.
Carrie Holdsworth invites young families to visit on Saturday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Little Pioneers area for Storytime. She will read stories on the theme “Lions, tigers and Bears, OH MY! Crafts centered on the theme will be available and you can bet a trip to see the bears in the Wildlife Adventure Room will be included.
On Saturday, July 20, Jasper native and Indiana poet, Norbert Krapf, will visit to read from his new book called “Ida Hagan” at 1:30pm. He is excited to share his poems on the life of this remarkable woman. Miss Hagan grew up in the Pinkston Freedom Settlement that was located in the present Huntingburg Conservation Club area, Miss Hagan achieved much in her growing up years in Ferdinand and Krapf is excited to share his 14 year research into her life.
The museum welcomes Indiana Lions Club on Saturday, July 27, for their state meeting and dinner.
Bidding continues in July on the Art Silent Auction items set up in Room Three at the museum. Artist, teacher and currently Dubois County Art Guild president Mrs. Lavonne Tisdale donated a portion of her collection of art objects to the museum to be used as a fundraiser to benefit the museum. On Saturday. July 27, from 5:30-8:00p.m.the museum will open for a special chance for people to visit the silent auction and bid on the items. Closing bids will be held and winners announced at 8:00 p.m. Food and refreshment will be served.
Ongoing programs continue at the museum. Come see the new “Wood Industry in Dubois County” Exhibit that traces the history of many woodworking industries in Dubois County and the “Beauty and Barber Shops” temporary display that runs till October 2024 that takes a look at past beauty shop items. The Model Train Club meets and will hold a work session the first Monday of Month at 6:30pm and The Coin Club meets the first Thursday of the Month at 6:30 p.m. in the Log House area. New members are welcome to check out these clubs. Walkers are invited to come into the museum to get out of the weather to get in their daily walk. Members are free, nonmember walkers are charged $1.
