Joyce Maxine Greenwell, 88, Shoals

Joyce Maxine Greenwell, 88, of Shoals, passed on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Cedarhurst, of Bloomington, Indiana.

She was born May 19, 1933, in Shoals the daughter of John and Opal (Bledsoe) Fawcett. She married Kenneth Raymond Greenwell and he preceded her in death in October 1971.

Maxine was a graduate of Shoals High School with the Class of 1951. She retired from Crane (CAAA) in June 1988 after 35 years of federal service. After retirement from Crane, Maxine worked for Schilli Transportation for several years. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals to share. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and her “Schilli Boys.”

She was a longtime member of Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for many years. She later attended Hindostan United Methodist Church.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Greg Souerdike and wife Madelyn, of Indianapolis; Michol Jones, of Shoals, and Stephanie Greenwell, of Bloomington; grandchildren, Travis Souerdike, twin grandsons, Caleb and Cole Baker; great-grandchildren Brayden Souerdike and Elizabeth Souerdike; one sister, Dora Bardwell, of Huntingburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Faye Shobe.

Cremation was chosen, and a celebration of life service will be planned at a later date.
