Joseph G. Persohn, 83

Joseph G. Persohn, 83, of St. Meinrad passed away Friday, August 1, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.

He was born December 31, 1930 in Saint Anthony to Hubert & Pauline (Altmeyer) Persohn. He married Mary Jane “Jeanie”Vaal on September 27, 1951 in St. Meinrad Archabbey Church, St. Meinrad. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2011.

Joseph retired as plant superintendent at Aristocraft /Masterbrand Cabinets. He was a member of St. Meinrad Parish. He loved to hunt and fish, playing softball and cards.  He enjoyed cooking and baking. And, he was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Kelley and husband Jim, of Leopold; two sons, Roger Persohn of Haubstadt and Dean Persohn and fiancé Brenda, of Wadesville; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Edwards, Jamie Edwards, Jill Tompkins, Jennifer Kellems, Jordan Kelly, Jeff Kelly, Adam Persohn & Emily Persohn; 11 great grandchildren, Wyatt , Ethan, Andre and Alexa Edwards, Reese and Ava Tompkins, Hunter and Hope Kellems, Clohe, Calissa, and Cayleigh Kelly; one brother, Lawrence Persohn and wife Ramilda of Jasper;  four sisters, Cora Fischer and husband Jim, of St. Meinrad, Bonnie Fleck of Jasper, Ardella Schneider and husband Pete, of Ferdinand, and Leona Schaefer of Dale.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Knies and Madesta Persohn, and three brothers, Ray , Ralph, and Walter Persohn

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 5th at 1:00 p.m. CST in Saint Meinrad Catholic Church in St. Meinrad, burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 10:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday.
