Joseph G. Mehringer, 78 of Jasper, passed away at 1:19 a.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at North, ood Retirement Community in Jasper.

Joe was born in Jasper, Indiana, on July 11, 1939 to Martin and Irene (Fleck) Mehringer. He married Norma Lampert on August 17, 1961, in Holy Family Catholic Church.

He served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army. Joe retired from the Jasper Cabinet Company after 45 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and their Holy Name Society, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and former member of the Ireland Sportman’s Club, the Jasper Moose, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation.

He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, pitching horseshoes, listening to country music, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, I.U. basketball, and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Mehringer of Jasper, one son, Steve Mehringer (Linda) of Martinsville; two daughters, Brenda Wynn (Kevin) of Bradenton, Fla. and Sheila Mehringer of Jasper; two grandchildren, Rachel Bowling and Sarah Mehringer; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome “Baldy” Mehringer of Jasper and Robert Mehringer (Mary Ann) of Jasper; and his four-legged companion of 13 years Lexie.

Preceding him in death was one sister, Doris Elmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Mehringer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Funeral Home in Jasper, and from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Wednesday at Holy Family Church.
