Joseph A. Sermersheim, 76, of Ireland, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at his home.

He was born on October 28, 1939, in Jasper to Herbert and Eleanor (Bockelman) Sermersheim. He married Evelyn Mehringer on September 10, 1959, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

He attended Jasper High School and served in the US Army as a military police officer. He retired from J. H. Rudolph Paving Company where he worked as a job foreman for many years. He is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and the Jasper Moose Club. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sermersheim; three daughters, Gerri Buchta and husband Randy M. of Ireland, Joni Dillon and husband Pat of Ireland and Carma Neukam and husband Kevin R. of Ireland; two sons, Kent Sermersheim and wife Linda of Jasper and Kevin Sermersheim of Ireland; nine grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Mundy of Jasper, Carol Akles and husband Bill of Oakland City and Jane Bell of Jasper.

Preceding him in death is one brother Eugene Sermersheim and one sister Lavern Fleck.

Funeral services for Joseph A. Sermersheim will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ireland.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center in Jasper.
