John W. Altmeyer, 71

John W. Altmeyer, age 71, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 2:35 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born February 12, 1943 in Boonville, Indiana, to Edwin S. and Naomi L. (Wire) Altmeyer.

Mr. Altmeyer retired as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force. He served 20 years in the military and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

After his military retirement, he worked at Styline Corporation in Huntingburg and enjoyed time spent fishing.

He was preceded in death by: his mother and father; two brothers, Charles Altmeyer and Earl Altmeyer; and one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothea and Leon Langebrake.

He is survived by his wife, Brigitte A. ( Wepner) Altmeyer of Huntingburg; two daughters, Kerstin Ice of Huntingburg and Michelle Altmeyer of Bleialf, Germany; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven (Vennetta) Altmeyer of Sycamore, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Shirley) Altmeyer of Henderson, Ky.; one sister and brother-in-law, Deborah (Dave) Schmitz of Huntingburg and by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services for John Altmeyer will be held at 10:00 a.m.  EDT, on Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntingburg.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
