John R. Giesler, 77, Oakdale, Calif.

John R. Giesler of Oakdale, Calif., formerly of Huntingburg, Indiana passed away on March 24, 2022, at the age of 77.  

He was a 1962 graduate of Huntingburg High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. Following graduation, he attended Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas where he also played basketball and baseball.

John owned the Colonial Bar in Huntingburg before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked as a cashier at Circus Circus Casino.  After retirement, he moved to Oakdale, California.

John was an avid Dodgers fan and enjoyed attending many games with friends and family in Cincinnati and St. Louis in addition to regularly attending games at Dodger Stadium after moving to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Opal Giesler. 

John is survived by his wife, Shirley (Eble); son, John Jr. (Stacy); two grandchildren, Emma and John III, both of Oakdale, Calif.; brother, Bob (Bev) Giesler of Birdseye; sister Linda (Dave) Ernst of Jasper.

There is a celebration of John’s life at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. 

John’s Godson, Fr. Tony Ernst will be the celebrant.
