Joan M. Giesler, 71, of Jasper, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at home.

Joan was born in Jasper, Indiana on March 15, 1944 to Dennis J. and Virginia (Gramelspacher) McDermott. She married William J. Giesler on November 26, 1966 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joan was a retired registered nurse, real estate broker, and rental property entrepreneur. Her passion was nursing. She became an aide at age 16, working at Memorial Hospital. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing at Evansville in 1965 and continued her profession in local facilities for over 50 years, retiring from Brookside Village Skilled Facility in 2012.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Blessed Virgin Sodality.

She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, playing cards, and reading.

She is survived by her husband, William J. Giesler of Jasper; two sons, Jay Giesler, and his wife Dawn of Huntingburg and Chad Giesler, and his wife Kathy of Jasper; five grandchildren, Connor, Dillon, Dakota, Madison, and Jaylyn Giesler; three brothers, Michael McDermott and his wife Martha of Rochester Hills, Mich., Ronald McDermott and his wife Elizabeth, Fresno, Cali. and Gregory McDermott and his wife Laurel of Downington, Penn.

Funeral services for Joan M. Giesler will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the church. The Blessed Virgin Sodality will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday.
