Jerome J. Jochem, 91

Jerome J. Jochem, 91, of Jasper, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
He was born at St. Henry, Indiana on February 14, 1923 to Leo and Clara (Hohl) Jochem. He married Virginia Mehringer on September 9, 1947 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She preceded him in death on December 26, 1974.
He was a 1941 Holland High School graduate. Jerome was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany under General Patton in the European Theatre. He retired from Masterbrand Cabinets where he worked in the maintenance department.
He is a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper. In 1998 he received the Diocese of Evansville Brut’e award in recognition of exemplary stewardship by the Most Rev. Gerald A Gettellfinger.
He was a charter member of the American Legion Post #124 in Ferdinand, Indiana also a life member of V.F.W. # 673 in Jasper.
Jerome was an avid fan of the IU Hoosiers basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He also enjoyed playing sheephead with the boys. He also coached the Dubois County Tire softball team for Jasper Men’s Softball League.
He is survived by three daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Tanner of Huntingburg, Jane Neeley and husband Ben, of Bedford, and Doris Arensman and husband Tom, of Jasper; son, Gary (Yog) Jochem and wife Deb, of Jasper; eight grandchildren, Shawn Tanner, Nicole Tanner, Amy Werner, Kris Jochem, Brian Matheis, Brady Matheis, Jeff Arensman, Trisha Arensman and 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Hollander and Rosie Stetter, both of Huntingburg.
Preceding him in death besides his wife is one sister, Coletta Caine and one brother, Lee Ray Jochem.
Funeral services for Jerome Jochem will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, (January 7, 2015), in Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. V.F.W. Post # 673 will conduct military grave side rites.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
