Jerome Habig, age 101 of Jasper, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday (February 6, 2013) at St. Charles Healthcare Campus in Jasper, IN.

Jerome was born on October 11, 1911 in Jasper, IN to Frank and Rose (Rottet) Habig. He married Dolores Kuper on June 24, 1947 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, IN.

His adult life was spent in sales, first working for the Edward J. Kuebler merchandise store, Stewart Dry Goods in Louisville, and Jasper Wood Products. Upon his return from the army, he formed his own sales company – Jerome F. Habig Sales, as a manufacturers representative for various wood products related to the wood furniture industry until his retirement.

He served 44 months in the U.S. Army during WWII, 14 of those months were spent in the 15th Army Headquarters Company in the European Theater.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a 3rd and 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW Post #673, the American Legion Post #147, the Dubois County Museum, the Kiwanis Club, and the Holy Name Society.

His greatest interest was always the St. Vincent De Paul Society. The Jasper store was opened during his tenure as president.

He served on the Greater Jasper School Board, on the board of Permanent Federal Savings and Loan, and the Jasper Park Board.

He enjoyed playing golf and gardening.

Seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are two Grandchildren – Philip and Andrew Faller; Seven brothers – Arnold, Clarence, Frances, James, Joseph, Lewis and Robert Habig, and one sister – Rosemary Habig.

Funeral services for Jerome Habig will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 9, 2013) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday (February 8, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St Joseph Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul, The Dubois County Community Foundation (Jerome and Dolores Endowment Fund) or to a favorite charity.
