Jasper – Jennifer Lueken of Ferdinand was recently named the recipient of the 2013 J.P. Salb Scholarship awarded by Indiana University School of Medicine. Lueken was also the inaugural recipient of the scholarship in 2012.

“Being named as a recipient of the J.P. Salb Scholarship is truly an honor,” Lueken stated. “It means a tremendous amount to have the support of my community hospital and physicians while going through my training. It is through their generous donations that make it easier for me and future medical students to achieve our goals.”

This trust fund scholarship was created by the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center medical community and the Indiana University Foundation to benefit IU School of Medicine. The scholarship is awarded annually to a third- or fourth-year student attending IU School of Medicine who intends to practice medicine in Dubois County for a minimum of three years. The recipient must also have resided in the service area of Memorial Hospital and have been a graduate of a high school within Dubois County.

The scholarship was named in honor of Dr. J.P. Salb, a graduate of Jasper High School and IU School of Medicine. He served on Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s Medical Staff from 1954 to 1985 and as Medical Staff President in 1958, 1965 and 1971. Dr. Salb was Chair of Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors from 1995 to 1999.

Lueken is the daughter of Dennis and Jackie Lueken of Birdseye and is a graduate of Forest Park High School. She currently resides in Ferdinand with her husband, Michael Lueken, while attending IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She is in her fourth year of medical school.
