Jay E. Messmer, 67, Ferdinand

Jay E. Messmer, 67, of Ferdinand, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Willowdale Village in Dale.

Jay was born February 25, 1959, in Huntingburg to Emil and Alberta (Petry) Messmer.

Jay was a 1977 graduate of Forest Park High School and a retired coal miner. He loved to be with his family and would often take his grandkids to the park. Jay liked to pitch horseshoes, sing karaoke, take drives, and make paper boats. Jay was well known for his one-liner jokes.

Jay is survived by his two sons, Ben (Heather) Messmer of Ferdinand and Tyler (Kelsey) Messmer of Huntingburg; grandchildren, Skye, Hadley, Holden and Talon Messmer; brother, John Messmer; sisters, Elaine Dill, Trina Schepers, Carol (Gary) Matheis and Alberta Bumm.

Jay was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Messmer; his parents, Emil and Alberta; brothers-in-law, Wayne Dill, Ed Schepers and Danny Bumm.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. EST at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Friends may call on Friday from 3:00 p.m. EST until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in St. Anthony Church Cemetery.
