Jasper streets closed for downed utility pole

A portion of Jasper’s Mill Street was closed Tuesday afternoon after a semi-tractor caused a utility pole to break and fall across the roadway.

According to Jasper police, David Trapp, 52, of Evansville, was following a route his GPS indicated and turned the 2013 Volvo Semi-tractor he was operating onto 11th Street from U.S. 231. He then attempted to turn onto Mills Street but as he did so, the trailer snagged a telephone wire owned by Frontier. As he continued around the turn, the trailer pulled on the wire until the utility pole snapped and fell onto 11th Street where it blocked traffic.

The snapped pole pulled other utility wires down causing them to hang low over Mill Street forcing police to have to close the area for about an hour as crews made repairs.
