Jasper, Southridge marching bands perform well over weekend

In weekend high school marching band competition, Jasper picked up grand champion at the Paoli Invitational and Southridge took first at the Castle Invitational.

Jasper was first in class 4A with an overall best for pit crew as well. Judges appreciated several aspects of Jasper’s program, “Mid-Autumn Night’s Dream.” The Marching Wildcats swept the top picks for music, visual, general effect, auxiliary, percussion and drum major.

Jasper Band Director James Goodhue commented that the marching band season goes by pretty quickly. “We started in July and the season’s going to end on October 29th, so really, we’re halfway through,” he said. “It doesn’t feel like that…and we’re not done learning our show, but that’s the way the season goes.”

Southridge Marching Raiders finished first in their class while competing at Castle High School. They also brought home awards for percussion, drum major and auxiliary.

Springs Valley finished first in 3A Competition at Paoli. Northeast Dubois was 6th in 1A.

The Forest Park Marching Rangers had the weekend off due to the Folk Fest activities.
