Jasper seeking owners assistance in Frogtown purchases

Jasper — The City of Jasper is pursuing a state program to purchase properties in the flood prone Frogtown area.

The city applied for a Federal Emergency Management grant to purchase properties on South Main and Jackson Streets near the Patoka River in 2012 but was denied. The city has since purchased one home and another was donated to the city.

City officials found out recently that the city has been approved for funding through the state housing authority’s program, as long as property owners approve.

A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7 at 6 p.m. at the city hall to discuss the details of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s voluntary land acquisition program with property owners. The Common Council has been invited and therefore the meeting was opened to the public.
