AdvancED is an external group that reviews members schools and corporations.
From their website:
AdvancED is the largest community of education professionals in the world. We are a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of PreK-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential.
The Greater Jasper School Corporation is the only local school corporation to be accredited while specific schools in the area such as all the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation schools are individually accredited.
The Jasper School board At the end of the comprehensive review the board is given a presentation of the findings. Lorey tells how the review is done:
“They looked at the documentation, they looked at our student demographic information and student performance. They observed in classrooms,” Lorey explained. “Then, basically, through the lens of what we call quality standards, that are indicators of high-quality school systems they provide us feedback.
David Gullatt, an AdvancED committee member for the Jasper review, reported the school had a couple of areas in which they could improve. Those ideas included better implementation of a unified learning program between the corporation’s schools, better use of data-driven practices by teachers and staff and better training on education practices using one-to-one technology.
These were minor suggestions from the committee who were overall pleased with the schools performance.
“We were really pleased with the results of the findings.” Dr. Lorey said. “And, comparing us to other school systems that are in the AdvancEd network, we scored above what that average network would be for other schools in that AdvancED system.”
