About 50 people stopped in to view plans and ask questions about the Courthouse Square renovation plans Tuesday evening.
Below are some of the aesthetic details of the renovation and images as they were presented last night.
As the city continues to move forward with the project, comments can be left on a special website here.
The city is seeking to apply for grants to assist in paying for the infrastructure and street/sidewalk improvements. Here is a story about that.Over 50 people stopped in the Jasper City Hall Tuesday evening to view plans for a revitalized Courthouse Square as well as ask questions of the engineers on the project, Rundell Ernstberger.
At this point, the plans for redevelopment only include the square and the blocks surrounding it.
The eight corners of the square (four on the outside sidewalk and four at the corners of the Courthouse) will be turned into nodes, or areas that invite people to congregate. The node next to the Jasper City Hall will have a ground level stage for performances while the other seven will have seating. As indicated, the street around the courthouse would be reduced to 26 feet in width and squared at the corners to slow vehicles down as they enter the square. The street, parking spaces and sidewalks will be brick of varying colors. The sidewalks will be widened to 14 feet and a six-foot wide area for plants and other landscaping will separate it from the parking spaces.Streets intersecting with Courthouse Square (Main and Sixth) will be narrowed to 24 feet wide. Parking will run parallel to the street. On Main Street, the additional room will allow the incorporation of a 10-foot wide multi-use trail. A median as included in the CityVision plans will not be part of this plan.
An overview of the project. In addition to the improvements to the main sidewalks and streets, the designers have incorporated ground level lighting to the alleys on the southern portion of the square. A public bathroom is also planned to be added in the city’s parking lot near the city hall.Ideas for aesthetic elements for the square and alleys.
