Jasper Public Works and Safety meeting notes for May 26

The Jasper Board of Public Works and Safety met on Tuesday and took the following actions.

—Approved an encroachment request by Randy Morton to install a privacy fence on his property.

—Jason Schmidt for Jasper Kiwanas requested the use of Jaycee Park for the Kiwanis Kiddie Carnival on Wednesday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

—Approved adding wine tasting and the sale of unopened wine at the Jasper Strassenfest Arts Festival at Dave Buehler Plaza scheduled for August 2.

—Approved a conditional offer of employment to Martin Loya Jr. for the position of probationary police officer. Loya will complete his physical evaluation and administrative work hopefully in time to attend the police academy scheduled for July 21 in Evansville.

—Heard 27 about weed ordinance violations from Code Enforcement Officer Kenny Hochgesang. Each violation and individual owner’s name was read aloud at the meeting.
