Jasper police officer Dave Drew resigns
Jasper — Jasper police officer Dave Drew submitted a letter of resignation to the City of Jasper today.
The city announced this afternoon they have accepted Drew’s resignation from the police department and have cancelled the special meeting tomorrow to decide his fate.
Drew has been the subject of an internal investigation by the city and the Indiana State Police. In February, Jasper Police Chief Michael Bennett recommended the Jasper Board of Public Works fire Drew based on information obtained through an internal police investigation and information obtained by the Indiana State Police in a separate investigation.
Officials have not disclosed the basis of the allegations against Drew.
Drew requested a hearing with the public works department in regards to the recommendation of his termination. That hearing was closed to the public.
On Thursday, the County Prosecuting Attorney stated his office did not have any information on the investigation the state police had conducted.
Drew has been an officer with the department since 2003. During that time, he has had four disciplinary actions documented in his personnel file. The first was in 2005 and the most recent was in November of last year.
Due to Drew’s resignation, the special public works meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.
