Jasper police make attempted murder arrest

The Jasper Police Department arrested a woman on a preliminary attempted murder charge after a man was found badly injured at the Riverwalk Sunday.

According to police, dispatch received a call about an injured male subject at the 15th Street entrance of the Jasper Riverwalk at about 11:45 a.m. The caller said the man had blood on his clothing and a head injury.

While officers were looking for the man, dispatch received a call from one of the Riverwalk Emergency Callboxes from the injured man. The man advised the department that Clara F. Whippo, 26, had struck him with a metal object, injuring his head.

The man was transported to Memorial Hospital for his injuries.

Officers began searching for the female subject in the agricultural field just northeast of the 15th Street entrance of the Riverwalk. After the deployment of the Jasper Police Department’s drone and K9 Gator, Whippo was located by K9 Gator during the track and taken into custody.

Clara Whippo was charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, aggravated battery, neglect of an animal, and criminal trespass and lodged into the Dubois County Security Center.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted the Jasper Police Department.
