Jasper Police Department announces new detectives

The Jasper Board of Public Works and Safety appointed Jasper Police Officers Aaron Schmitt and Josh Greener as the department’s newest detectives.

“I am excited for Officer Schmitt to start his new role as detective and know he will continue to do great work for the police department and the community,” said Chief Nathan Schmitt.   

Detective Schmitt has served with the department as a patrolman since 2016. In addition to his patrol duties, Schmitt is a field training officer, a law enforcement instructor, an emergency vehicle operations course instructor, a S.T.O.P.S. Instructor, a D.A.R.E. Instructor, bike patrol, and an APOD interview evaluator.   

Detective Schmitt is a member of the Ireland Lions Club. He is a Jasper High School graduate and graduated from Vincennes University with an Associate’s Degree in Conservation Law Enforcement and a Bachelor’s Degree in Homeland Security and Public Safety.  

Detective Schmitt and his fiancé reside in Jasper.    

Officer Josh Greener has been with the department since 2018 but comes with an extensive amount of experience.

Detective Greener is a graduate of Forest Park High School and a graduate from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Detective Greener also provided six years of honorable military service with the Indiana Army National Guard and served a tour of active duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Detective Greener began his law enforcement career with the City of Henderson, Kentucky Police Department and has served with the Jasper Police Department as a patrolman since 2018.  Detective Greener received training as a field training officer, bike patrol, and has attended various investigative training courses while serving with the Jasper Police Department.

“Officer Greener has the experience and knowledge needed for being a great detective,” Chief Schmitt said. “His dedication to this profession will serve the community well in his new role as a detective.”

Detective Greener is a member of the Ireland Knights of Columbus. Greener, his wife and his children reside in the City of Jasper.
