Jasper names new Director of Personnel/Safety/Loss Control

After over 18 years of service as the Director of Personnel/Safety/Loss Control for the City of Jasper, Charlie Schneider is going to retire on May 1. Today, Mayor Terry Seitz announced the appointment of Cale Knies as the city’s new director of the department.

“Cale brings many qualities to the position,” said Seitz. “Among them are years of experience in the fields of environmental, health, and safety which have been areas of excellence established by this department. I like his enthusiasm for his new career and his keen interest in further developing his skills. City employees and the citizens of Jasper will be well served.”

A Jasper native, Knies is a graduate of Indiana State University with a degree in Safety Management. While at ISU he earned the distinction of being named Outstanding Safety Management Student. He has extensive knowledge of OSHA standards, employee safety and health training, loss control, and workers compensation insurance. In addition, he has been selected by the Indiana Department of Labor to work in their Special Government Employee program.

He is married to Layn (Witte) and resides in Jasper where he has been involved in youth sports and other Jasper community activities.

During the month of April, Knies will work with Director Schneider to become acclimated with the position.
