Jasper man arrested for burglary

Jasper — The Jasper Police Department arrested Matthew T. Berg, 31, of 4020 Manor Drive, Jasper, for burglary, theft and false informing today at about 2 p.m.

Police were investigating a burglary that was reported early Monday morning by Zach Fleming. Fleming reported to police that an iPad 5 Air, Kindle Fire, and 32 inch Vizio television had been stolen from his residence at 2462 Terry Lane, Jasper.

As the investigation progressed Berg became a suspect and was brought in for questioning by the investigator. At first, Berg admitted he and another man had committed the burglary, but based on the investigation, officers suspected Berg had acted alone. Berg did recant his earlier story and confirmed he had in fact committed the crime by himself. 

All of the property taken from the Fleming residence was recovered.

Berg was charged with B felony burglary, D felony theft, and A misdemeanor false informing and booked into the Dubois County Security Center.
