Jasper Library Board meeting notes; November 7
The Jasper Library Board met at 4:00 pm Thursday afternoon – about 45 minutes earlier than normal – the Contractual Board usually meets first, however the combined boards held an executive session at 5:30 pm, hence the need for the earlier start time.
Library Director Rita Douthitt reported to the board that the front steps have been fixed at the front entrance to the Library and it is now open to the public as of Wednesday of this week. The curb along 11th Street was also fixed by the city and is almost completed.
Also in the meeting last night the board also heard a request from Douthitt to add security cameras to the alley side of the building, just as a precautionary measure – not because there have been problems.
The sprinkler system would also be looked at the same time to make sure it is still in good functional condition. The board made a decision to get a price on the cost for a new system and take it up at the next meeting.
The board passed an annual resolution to join the Indiana State Internet Consortia, which provides public library Internet access at a reduced cost and also a state grant that helps offset the cost of the access. By doing this every year, the library gets a reduction of 60 percent off of the cost of their Internet access. Board members passed the resolution.
