Jasper hosts 32 marching bands Saturday; streets near Alumni Stadium to close

Thirty-two marching bands will compete Saturday, Oct. 3, at Jerry Brewer Alumni Stadium for the Jasper Marching Wildcat Band’s annual Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic and Open Invitational.

Area bands are scheduled to perform at these times:

Northeast Dubois, 11 a.m.
Pike Central, 11:52 a.m.
Southridge, 3:30 p.m.
Forest Park, 5:15 p.m.
Heritage Hills, 7:15 p.m.
Jasper, 9 p.m.

The Jasper Board of Public Works has authorized the Jasper Police Department to close or limit several streets near the stadium from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Second Street, from east of Hometown IGA to Clay Street, will be closed to the public. School buses and equipment vehicles will park there, and pedestrians will be able to cross.

Rolen Drive, from Fifth Street to behind the stadium, will be limited to accessible parking.

Fifth Street will have no restrictions.

The Schroeder Sports Complex and the Jasper Football Complex will be closed to the public. No parking will be allowed from Friday night until the complexes reopen Saturday evening. [Editor’s note: Get a reopening time. “Saturday evening” is vague, and the street closures run to 11 p.m.] Buses and equipment vehicles will use the Schroeder lots, and bands will use the south soccer fields to warm up and rehearse marching.

The Jasper Street Department and Jasper Parks Department campuses will also be closed to the public. Bands will use them for music warm-ups.

If the weather is bad, the contest may move to Jasper Middle School, 3600 N. Portersville Road.
