Jasper High School announces its Athletic Hall of Fame class for 2025
Seven inductees will be enshrined in the banquet ceremony on Saturday, September 27, at the Calumet Lake Event Plaza:
Alan J. Dick — Center on the 1966 AP All-State football team; selected for North-South AllStar Football Game; starting offensive tackle for Purdue University in 1969, 1970.
Neil Giesler — Baseball All-State 2001, 2002; selected in 29th round of Major League Baseball Draft in 2002 and in 37th round in 2003 by the Chicago White Sox; basketball All-State Honorable Mention, 2002; No. 3 in JHS basketball career scoring; tennis All-State doubles first team, 1999; baseball scholarship to University of South Carolina; NCAA All-Regional baseball tournament team, 3B, 2005.
Maria Gramelspacher Heathcott — Qualified for the state finals in 11 out of 12 seasons in swimming, cross country, and track; holds the JHS 4K cross country record; high school swimming All-American in the 100 fly, 2007; state runner-up, 100 fly, 2007; holds the JHS and sectional record, 100 fly; ranks fourth all-time in the 200 fly at Ball State University.
John Hoffman — Basketball All-State, 1957; football All-State 1956; high jump state finalist, 1957; key player for Georgia Tech Elite 8 basketball team in the 1960 NCAA tournament.
Gabe Mehringer — No. 1 pitcher for Jasper semi-state champions, 1967 and 1968; awarded baseball scholarship to Austin Peay State University.
Eddie Rottet — 1934 basketball All-State, one of two unanimous selections; captain of 1934 Final Four basketball team, with JHS best record of 29-2; captain, shortstop, and cleanup hitter of 1933 Legion baseball state champions; awarded athletic scholarship to Northwestern and Purdue; died the summer before his freshman year.
Mallory Stemle Cain — Indiana individual tennis state singles, 4th place, 2002; tennis All-State singles 2000, 2001, 2002; inducted into the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Athletics Hall of Fame, 2011; Mid-Continent Conference Tennis Player of the Year, 2006; named IUPUI’s top senior athlete, 2006.
The inductees, or their representatives, will also be introduced at the Jasper football game on Friday, September 26.
The inductees were chosen by an anonymous 10-member selection committee.
The boys’ 1975 basketball sectional champions will be honored as this year’s Golden Anniversary Team at the September 27 banquet, and the girls’ 2000 golf sectional champions will be honored as the Silver Anniversary Team.
Nominations from the public are now being accepted for the 2026 Hall of Fame class. A nomination form can be accessed at jasperathleticshof.touchpros.com or by contacting Athletic Director Phil Kendall at pkendall@gjcs.k12.in.us. All nominations will be kept on file to be considered in future years.
