Jasper group wants to win $3 million
The City of Jasper is in a contest against 49 other small towns and rural cities across the United States to win up to $3 million.
After a group of volunteers applied last March, the city received the good news that it was chosen as a quarter-finalist in the America’s Best Communities (ABC) contest in April.
Sponsored by Frontier Communications, DISH Network and other corporate partners, the goal is to invest in communities to help spur economic growth and community revitalization.
In 2012, Jasper citizens rallied to support the Schnitzelbank Restaurant’s Bratzel when it was chosen as the best sandwich in Indiana during Super Bowl 46. Now, the local Jasper ABC committee is calling on our community to help promote Jasper and bring home another title, America’s Best Community, with a $3 million grand prize.

While one group of volunteers continues to plan and create a submission on what the $3 million will be used for, the Jasper ABC committee is asking the public to come together and share the good news on social media and follow along on a newly created Facebook page at Jasper IN. America’s Best Communities.
Like and share the content that is posted about Jasper and its residents and businesses. Follow along for contests sponsored by the major national corporations involved in America’s Best Communities.
In the near future, the volunteer groups working together to win the contest will hold public meetings to reveal their plans. Those plans align with the Downtown + Riverfront Master Plan and will provide a huge step in moving towards creating those visions.
To continue to be considered in the contest, the group is required to create videos of the community involved in the process. Along with that, the volunteers are using social media to highlight what makes the community great.
The volunteer group is comprised of the following community members, businesses and organizations:
Ray Schwenk of Jasper Engines
Lonnie Nicholson of Kimball International
Jane Knies of German American Bank
Dan Fritch of Matrix Integration
Maureen Braun of Finishing Touches
Shelby Hettinger of Indiana Furniture Industries
Dave Buehler of Redevelop Old Jasper Action Coalition
Nancy Eckerle of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce
Brad Ward of the Dubois County Community Foundation
Jessica Delorenzo of Vincennes University of Jasper Campus
Ed Cole of Dubois Strong
Darla Blazey of the City of Jasper
Lois Kuntz of the City of Jasper
Mayor Terry Seitz of the City of Jasper
