Jasper Group adds solar power to headquarters

Jasper Group’s new solar panel installation.

Jasper Group has added enough solar panels to its Jasper headquarters to offset 10 percent of the building’s electricity consumption.

The photovoltaic solar panels now line the southwest corner of the property and beginning this week, will reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

“Gas and oil are inexpensive right now, but that is not forever,” said Jasper Group president Mike Elliott. “Solar is infinite. There is a multi-year payback with energy savings and rebates; after that, it is almost free. It also reduces our carbon footprint and helps to protect Mother Earth.”

Jasper Group collaborated with the City of Jasper’s Net Metering Program to ensure the maximum allowed usage of the solar panels. The company also announced it would continue to add solar power to its six additional facilities across Dubois and Orange counties.

“The small field of panels you will see as you travel west from Clay Street on Second Street is the allowed allocation permitted to this location at this time,” Elliott added. “The plan is to add similar investments at our other locations in Dubois and Orange counties and add to them further as we are permitted.”

The solar energy project is an important step in Jasper Group’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. Since opening their doors in 1929, Jasper Group has been committed to sustainable energy practices in area facilities. In addition to adding solar power, the company uses wood material off-fall as a heat source for the factories or is provided to the community for reuse.

Jasper Group is a family of brands that reaches a broad range of markets, price points and customers. The company operates seven facilities in Southern Indiana, each with a focus on sustainability and respecting the world’s resources.
