Jasper Dog Park fundraising in progress

The construction of the City of Jasper dog park began in October.
A three-quarter acre area at Gutzweiler Park on 16th Street is now set aside with a fence in place.
A fundraiser is currently in progress to raise money to purchase and install the electronic entry key system for the gate as well as a water fountain, doggy waste station, and a decorative fire hydrant.
The secure electronic double gate system with entry key access will insure dogs in the park do not escape when new dogs enter. A membership card will be required to access the park for an annual fee.
The new dog park is expected to be open for spring of 2015.
The new dog park was a project created by a group of four citizens participating in the Dubois County Leadership Academy. The leadership team comprised of Jill Cravener, Shane Denu, Emma Wininger and Nicole Faulkner approached the Jasper Park Board with a proposal for the addition of the dog park. Gutzweiler Park was suggested as a location that could use the dog park to increase its usage by citizens.
The group continues to work with Jasper Park and Recreation on the fruition of the project. The fundraisers currently in progress include a silent auction at the Petsense Store, 4278 N Newton St., Jasper. Various items donated by local businesses will be on display from Nov. 28 to Dec. 20, 2014, during store hours.
A cookie walk featuring homemade cookies for humans and canines is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until they run out of cookies).
Anyone interested in donating towards the purchase of materials for the park or providing items for upcoming fundraisers can contact Jill Cravener by e-mail at tjcrav@yahoo.com OR phone # 812-634-7004 (after 4:00pm on weekdays).
