Jasper District Four recount commission named, date set

Jasper — The recount of votes cast in Jasper’s Fourth District race will occur on December 15, 2023, at 9 a.m. at the Dubois County Annex, 602 Main Street.

The recount will be conducted by a three-person committee comprised of Sandra Morton (Democrat), Michael Jones (Republican) and Knox County Clerk David Shelton.

The recount was granted by Dubois Circuit Court Judge Nathan Verkamp after a petition from Teresa Kendall, chair of the Dubois County Democratic Party, was filed earlier this month.

Kendall filed for the recount because the race was decided by two votes. She has stated the Democratic Party will accept the results of the recount, but with it being so close a race, she felt it was worth filing for the recount.
