Jasper Common Council meeting October 17
Lewi Hulsman, a Boy Scout working on a merit badge, attended the common council meeting as part of the requirement for the Citizenship in the Community merit badge. Lewi is a member of Troop 185 with Holy Family and told the council he may have earned seven merit badges so far.
The council conducted a public hearing in regards to the designation of an economic revitalization area and the tax abatement request from Haddad Properties Ltd Partners and Stens LLC. There were no comments from the public and the hearing was adjourned.
The council then approved resolution 2012-15 to confirm the designation of the economic revitalization area for Stens LLC and Haddad Properties.
The council then held a public hearing and heard from Brad Eckerle of Brosmer Land Surveying. He addressed the council in regards to a petition from Meyer Distributing Inc., for the city to vacate a public utility and drainage easement in the Fairway Park Fourth Addition. There were no comments heard from the public and the hearing was closed.
The council then approved Ordinance 2012-20 to vacate public utility and drainage easement in Fairway Park Fourth Addition.

The mayor informed the council of plans with the abandoned Jasper Cabinet building. He stated the city plans on including the property in the Jasper Downtown master plan being developed. A meeting with the owner of the building, the mayor and councilman Tom Schmidt has been scheduled.
Property Acquisition: The council discussed purchasing the Jasper Country Club property. The use of the property for the Parks Department for use as a large centrally located park. Click on link to read story.
