Jasper Common Council meeting minutes
A short agenda made for a short Jasper Common Council meeting Wednesday night.
Even so, the council passed three ordinances, two resolutions, voted to authorize the sale of property at 15th and Newton Street, heard an update from the USB meeting on Monday night and appointed a new member to the Jasper Arts Board.
Kyle Ruppert was appointed to the Arts Board. He replaces Kara Bodle, who has resigned due to a move away from Jasper.
The council also passed an ordinance that authorizes additional appropriations from the 2014 budget, passed an ordinance setting limits on truck routes and load limits on city streets, and passed a salary ordinance that adds an assistant director of golf position to the Parks Department.
The two resolutions passed included one that opposes any state proposal to eliminate the Business Personal Property Tax without a corresponding replacement revenue source, and another that authorizes a search for funding for the downtown and riverfront master plan.
The latter was needed to help in the Stellar Communities Grant application process to show the city’s resolve in the implementation of the plans.
Finally, the council authorized City Attorney Renee Kabrick to work with an interested buyer of the property at 15th and Newton Street.
Kabrick obtained documentation that says the assessed value on the 8/10ths of an acre is $5,200.00; with closing costs it is 5,623.70. However, the city has an offer from an adjacent landowner, Dennis Sendelweck, in the amount of $3,700.00.
Kabrick is now authorized to negotiate with Sendelweck and make a decision on the sale of the property without further action by the council.
