Jasper assistant superintendent hired as Greene County superintendent

Bob HackerFrom principal, to assistant superintendent, to superintendent; Bob Hacker was hired as the new superintendent of the White River Valley School District in Greene County.

In a special meeting on Wednesday night, the school trustees took less than five minutes to approve Hacker for the position.

Hacker will replace Dr. Jerrill Vandeventer as the White River Valley superintendent on July 1. Vandeventer retired as Jasper Consolidated School Corporation superintendent last year and has been serving White River Valley as interim superintendent.

Hacker worked under Vandeventer as principal of Jasper High School from 2009 to 2012. He moved into the assistant superintendent position after previous assistant superintendent Mike Hile retired at the end of the 2011-12 school year.

“I have really missed working with students and teachers this year,” Hacker said in an email this morning. “This position will allow me that opportunity on a daily basis as the WRV central office is located within the high school building. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the students and staff at Greater Jasper. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with an outstanding Board of Education and two outstanding superintendents in Dr. Lorey and Dr. Vandeventer. I am also thankful to have worked with such a great group of teachers at Jasper High School for three years and district-wide this year.”

The 48-year-old Hacker has been a classroom teacher, coach, athletic director, and both a middle school and high school principal in his career spanning 27 years.

Hacker is a 1982 graduate of Franklin Central High School in suburban Indianapolis. He earned his undergraduate degree cum laude in English and Secondary Education from Franklin College in 1986. He attained his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education in 1989 from IUPUI.

Hacker will relocate to Greene County to take the position.

The superintendent’s office is located in the high school of the rural school district allowing Hacker closer contact with the students and teachers he will be working with.

“When it comes down to it, I missed the daily interaction with students and teachers and will now have that opportunity again,” Hacker said.
