Jasper Arts opens 33rd Annual Juried Art Exhibition Sept. 3
Jasper–Jasper Arts will open its 33rd Annual Juried Art Exhibition at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center on Sept. 3, with the show running through Nov. 22.
An opening reception and awards ceremony is set for 5-7 p.m. Sept. 3 in the gallery as part of the center’s First Thursday event. The exhibition will award $2,000 in prize money across four categories: Best of Show, Award of Excellence, High Honor Award and five Honorable Mentions.
The show features two- and three-dimensional work spanning watercolor, oil, acrylic, prints, photography, collage, sculpture, ceramics and graphite. Eligibility was limited to artists from Indiana, its bordering states, or former residents of those areas.
This year’s juror is Jason Edward Hayden, director of the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art. Hayden has spent more than three decades with the museum, starting in the early 1990s as a preparator — the term for staff who install and manage exhibition presentation — after earning a graphic design degree at nearby Brescia University. He went on to serve as the museum’s designer, photographer, registrar, operations chief and development officer before becoming director. Hayden also keeps a pottery studio at home, which he says continues to inform his approach to leadership.
Thirty-four artists were selected for the exhibition: Kazhia Kolb, Cindee Degraaff, Romy Kissel, Clare Bies, Eric Harmon, Lesley Nelson, Craig Barton, Andrea Hoelscher, Ruth Hayes, Emma Tretter, Jay Hamlin, Bob Acton, Jj Baker, Renee Segovia, Curt Uebelhor, Gweneth Dunleavy, Alana Goefrich, Jeannie Worley, Kevin Leslie, William James Lupkin, Amy Musia, James Russell May, Gary Hobdy, Sarah Wolfe, Vickie Wheatley, Ava Harmon, Kim Henzel, Brittany Stump, Brad Fugate, Ryan Mckain, John Puffer, Kara Cullen, Jennifer Moorhead and Eric Wieringa.
The Thyen-Clark Cultural Center, 100 3rd Ave., Suite A, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
