Jasper Arts names winners of 33rd juried exhibition

JASPER — Amy Musia of Evansville won Best of Show for “The Prism: Let There Be Light” at Jasper Arts’ 33rd Annual Juried Art Exhibition, now on view at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center.

Awards were announced at the show’s opening reception Sept. 3. Jason Edward Hayden, director of the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, served as juror.

Jennifer Moorhead of Smithfield, Kentucky, won the Award of Excellence for “Vast.” James Russell May of Louisville won the Award of High Honor for “Reach.”

Honorable mentions went to Curt Uebelhor of Ferdinand for “Darwin Had His Theories/Nazea Plate Redux”; John Puffer of Vincennes for “Chique Salon: Princeton, Indiana”; Sarah Wolfe of Vincennes for “Picking an Old Friend”; Ruth Hayes of Spencer for “Colorful Koi”; and Gweneth Dunleavy of Louisville for “In France They Kiss on Main Street.”

The show features work by 34 artists. It was open to 2-D and 3-D artists in any medium who live in Indiana or a bordering state, or who once did.

Hayden joined the Owensboro museum in the early 1990s after earning a graphic design degree from Brescia University. He started as a preparator, the person who installs exhibits and later worked as the museum’s designer, photographer, registrar, operations chief and development officer before becoming director. He also keeps a pottery studio at home.

The exhibition runs through Admission is free. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays at 100 Third Ave., Suite A. School groups and clubs are welcome. More information is at jasperarts.org or 812-482-3070.
