Jasper Arts celebrates Youth Art and also features special Black Box Theatre exhibit at Thyen-Clark Cultural Center this week

Two exhibits will open this week at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center this week.
Jasper Arts with support from Kimball Electronics is pleased to present the work of Vincennes, Indiana artist, Fernando Lozano for the months of March, April and May 2025 at The Thyen-Clark Cultural Center. The solo installation exhibition titled ‘Portrait of the Sea’ will be featured as a Special Exhibit on display in The Black Box Theater.
The additional exhibition space will serve as a fourth Gallery for the extended months as we continue to celebrate our 50th Anniversary in big ways!
The installation exhibit, ‘Portrait of the Sea’ addresses the impact of plastic pollution and the devastating destruction being done to the oceans.
Fernando exhibits this ENORMOUS issue threatening the oceans and the future of humanity by visually creating three ENORMOUS mixed-media paintings.
In conjunction with the large impactful paintings, Fernando has incorporated sound and video into his installation as well. The exhibit includes a digital video of marine life, as well as a composed collaboration with students from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Fernando thought of simply playing recordings of whales but wanted to take the artwork a step further. That is when he partnered with Professor Javier Leon who put him in contact with one of his students, Laura Pacheco Nieto who then composed the original, breathtaking music for the art installation.
Do not miss the opportunity to hear the composition LIVE by Laura and other students from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, while viewing the large and beautiful artwork at the Opening First Thursday Reception.
Fernando will join us for the evening to give a Gallery Talk at The First Thursday Reception on Thursday, March 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Free event and open to the public.
Youth Art Month also opens at Thyen-Clark Cultural Center this week.

The artwork of students from throughout Dubois County will be featured at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center during Youth Art Month.
March is YOUTH ART MONTH in Indiana and nationally. The Art Education Association of Indiana and the National Education Association have chosen March as a time to recognize and celebrate the creativity and
artistic talents of our children. Art organizations and art educators are asked to come together to help local communities highlight art education this month.
In this spirit, Jasper Arts will be hosting the Annual “Youth Art” Exhibit from March 6 to 30, 2025, at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center with support from Universal Design Associates, Inc.
This year’s exhibit will be showcasing artwork by area High School and Elementary school students simultaneously in two galleries. Participating in the display are: Jasper High School, Southridge High School, Forest Park High School and Northeast Dubois High School. The second gallery will feature local Elementary schools which are: Cedar Crest Intermediate, Northeast Dubois Intermediate, Jasper Elementary, Holy Trinity Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, Ferdinand Elementary, Ireland Elementary, Huntingburg Elementary, Holland Elementary, Homeschool Programing, and Christ Our Advocate Memorial Academy.
