James W. “Jim” Fischer, 72, Jasper

James W. “Jim” Fischer, 72, of Jasper, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018, at home.

Jim was born in Huntingburg on November 2, 1945, to Arthur J. and Lorene Rose (Blessinger) Fischer. He married Shirley Hopf on October 2, 1969, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

He served in the Indiana Army National Guard and was a member of the St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 where he served on the Honor Guard.

Jim retired from Kimball International after 39 years of service and then worked for St. Vincent de Paul for 10 years. He served for four years on the Jasper City Council. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, where he served as an usher and server and was a member of their Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus and the St. Anthony Conservation Club.

He was an I.U. basketball and Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting the casino with his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Fischer of Jasper; two sons, Scott Fischer (Audrey) of Jasper and Mike Fischer (Stacey) of Jasper; four grandchildren, Abby, Riley, Reece, and Ty Fischer; four sisters, Joan A. Schwenk (Louis) of Jasper, Marilyn C. English (Richard) of Vincennes, Diane M. Fischer of St. Anthony and Ramona A. Roach (Dale) of Bloomfield; one brother, Gerald L. Fischer (Jane) of Jasper; nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Donna Elizabeth Fischer, and one brother, David Joseph Fischer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James W. Fischer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 will conduct military graveside rites.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church on Friday.
