James “Jim” Mehling, 76, St. Meinrad

James “Jim” Mehling, 76, of St. Meinrad, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home.

Jim was born April 5, 1949, in St. Meinrad to Hubert and Alice (Maffenbeier) Mehling.

Jim served in the United States Marines from 1968 to 1970. Jim was very patriotic and proud of his service to his country.

He enjoyed deer hunting and being with friends and family.

Jim is survived by three sisters, Thelma Ann Hunt of Gainesville, Ga., Margie (Mike) Steckler of Huntingburg, and Ruth (Ray) Fritz of Ferdinand; one brother, Terry (Donna) Auffart of St. Meinrad.

Jim was preceded in death by both his parents; three brothers, Norman, Bernard and Stanley “Butter” Mehling.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. CDT in ST. Meinrad Catholic Church. Burial will follow at a later date. St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 will provide military honors.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. CDT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, and also on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. CDT until the time of services at St. Meinrad Church.
