James H. “Jim” Knust, 76, Ferdinand

James H. “Jim” Knust, 76, Ferdinand, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Ferdinand on Sept. 14, 1940, to Nick and Verena (Wirtzberger) Knust. He married Betty Kloeck on June 22, 1963, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church in St. Meinrad.
Mr. Knust was a retired Prudential Insurance agent. He was a lifelong member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and was a server and sang in the children’s choir as a child. He sang in the choir for 60 years and served during funeral and weekday Masses, was a Eucharistic minister and on the St. Ferdinand Parish Council. He was a recipient of the Simon Bruté Award. He was an original member of the Celebration Singers and was president of its board of directors.
After retirement, he was a step-on tour guide for Dubois County Tourism. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and its color guard.
His hobbies included singing, gardening, traveling and his grandchildren’s activities. He traveled in all 50 states and many foreign countries.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Knust; a son, Jim A. Knust of St. Anthony; three daughters, Marian (Mark) Bromm of St. Anthony, Julie (Glenn) Lindauer of Ferdinand and Audrey (Lee) Abell of Plainfield;a brother, Donald (Mary) Knust of Ferdinand; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jo Meuser.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rights.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
